Family is the Key to Faith

It’s no surprise to anyone involved in ministry today that working with and reaching out to parents is the most effective way to pass on faith to children and youth. Parents are the primary educators.

Too many parents see the church as providing a service to their children. That’s why parents drop their children off at religious education, Sunday school, or youth ministry and drive off! In essence, what they are saying is, “You’re the church leader. You’re the expert. You teach my kids faith.”

Our strategy needs to change. Maybe the message back to parents should be this: “You are the parent. You teach your kids faith. And we’ll help you.”

I think this video, from Jim Burns, gets to the heart of the issue.

Question: How do you help parents pass on the faith to their children?
