Are You Engaging Parents in Your Ministry?

The data is in: parents have the biggest influence on the faith development of children and youth.

The National Study on Youth and Religion confirms what many of us have suspected for a long time. Parents matter! One of the more interesting statistics I uncovered recently is that 90% of parents pray for their children at least once a week, but only 37% of those parents pray out loud with their children (not including meal times and church services).

What this leads me to believe is that most parents desperately want to pass on a legacy of faith to their children, they just don’t know how to do it!

As leaders in ministry, one of our tasks needs to be about engaging with parents and equipping them with practical skills that will allow them to model and live out their faith everyday at home.

This video sheds some light on this subject and is worth watching.

Question: In what ways have you effectively engaged parents in your ministry?
